A Thanksgiving Day Craft Indiana Families Will Love
In Indiana, fall colors are everywhere—gold, orange, and red leaves scattered across yards and parks. This autism-friendly Thanksgiving Day craft brings the beauty of nature indoors with a simple Leaf Print Turkey project.
At Circle City ABA, we love hands-on activities that mix fun with learning. This one helps children explore textures, practice fine motor skills, and express creativity.
Autism-Friendly Craft: Leaf Print Turkey
What You’ll Need:
- A few real leaves (dry and clean)
- Brown, orange, and yellow paint
- Paper plate or white cardstock
- Paintbrush
- Brown construction paper
- Glue and scissors
- Googly eyes (optional)
Step-by-Step Directions:
- Step 1: Paint one side of a leaf. Gently press it onto the paper to make a print. Repeat with different colors to form the turkey’s “feathers.”
- Step 2: Cut a circle from brown paper for the turkey’s body and a smaller one for the head. Glue them in the middle of your leaf prints.
- Step 3: Add a beak, wattle, and eyes.
- Step 4: Once dry, write “I’m thankful for…” at the top and let your child fill in what makes them smile.
Why Indiana Families Love This Craft
Leaf prints create a sensory experience that’s perfect for the fall season. Kids feel the texture of nature while focusing on each step. It’s a creative, calming, and great bonding activity to do before Thanksgiving dinner.
