Tips for Preparing Your Child for a Trunk or Treat Event
New events can feel exciting, but they can also bring unfamiliar sights, sounds, people, and routines.
A little preparation may help your child know what to expect.
Before attending, you might show your child pictures of Trunk or Treat events or explain the plan using simple language. You can talk about wearing a costume, walking between decorated areas, seeing other families, and collecting treats.
Costumes can also be flexible. If your child doesn’t like masks, face paint, hats, or certain fabrics, they don’t need to wear them. A favorite shirt, pajamas, character outfit, or no costume at all can still be part of the fun.
Consider bringing items your child already uses for comfort or sensory support. Most importantly, follow your child’s cues. Taking a break, skipping an activity, or leaving early is okay.
