Real-Life Transformations: A Joyful Adult ABA Transition in Scottsdale

At our Scottsdale center in Arizona, something extraordinary happened, something we’ll never forget. It was the day we welcomed our very first adult learner. There was a mix of excitement and curiosity in the air. At Circle City ABA, we’ve always believed that everyone deserves the chance to grow, feel supported, and find joy, no matter their age. And this moment was a true reflection of that belief. What happened next was more than just a smooth transition—it was a reminder of why we do what we do.

Please note: Therapy is a highly personal experience, and, like any other treatment, results are not uniform. Several factors determine whether a child will benefit from therapy, including individual characteristics, the nature of their needs, and the quality of support they receive at home and/or school.

Starting a New Chapter in Adult ABA Transition

One of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) recently began their first year supporting learners. As part of their role, they had the opportunity to guide this adult learner through a complete transition to a new clinical team. This transition was a big moment for both the learner and the team.

When the learner transferred to Scottsdale, the BCBA worked closely with the local team to make sure everything was in place. The staff in Scottsdale welcomed the client with open arms. They asked thoughtful questions, built a strong training schedule, and made sure they had time to connect with the learner before diving into services.

Transitions can be challenging. But with the right support, they can also be meaningful and full of joy.

Building Trust Through a Thoughtful Transition

For this adult ABA transition, our team used a simple but powerful plan. First, they made sure everyone on the team understood the learner’s goals and interests. Then, they set up a schedule that gave plenty of time for the learner and staff to get to know each other.

The team focused on using positive interactions, shared activities, and clear communication. Over time, the learner became more comfortable. She smiled, laughed, and felt more at ease each day.

In fact, something surprising happened. For three days in a row, she had such a great time at the Scottsdale center that she didn’t want to leave when her session ended. That’s a good problem to have!

A Smiling Face Every Morning

Now, each day starts with a smile. This learner walks into the clinic happy, relaxed, and ready to engage with her team. The staff are just as excited to see her. Her happiness is a reminder of how powerful the right support system can be.

This transition shows the true heart of Circle City ABA. It’s not just about therapy. It’s about relationships, kindness, and helping people enjoy life. Every step of her journey was handled with care, and it shows in how she feels each day.

Why Adult ABA Transitions Matter

ABA therapy is often linked with young children, but adults can benefit just as much. We saw that firsthand in Scottsdale. With patience, planning, and a team that truly cared, our adult learner began to build new skills and grow in ways that mattered to her. She laughed more, connected more, and gained confidence day by day. Her story is a simple but powerful reminder: growth doesn’t stop at childhood, and it’s never too late to find joy in learning something new.
